China may become the next capital of Poker

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the US Las Vegas has been gathering the largest poker tournaments for the last decades. Thus, in year 2006 there was a record number of participants in a live WSOP tournament (8,773 gamers from all around the globe). And till the most recent time the second place was firmly held by the tournament with a telling name ‘Millionaire Maker’ that was held this year in United States as well.

But the tendency has been changing. In 2013 they registered the largest offline poker tournament outside America. This was the GUKPT Goliath in Coventry (United Kingdom) where they gathered 2,570 registrations. And the last year event in Brazil in San Paulo included 2,446 participants, which is just a trifle less. So no one was surprised when they announced of a new record in this year’s Beijing Poker Stars event. This event gathered 2,732 participants and has become the largest in the history.

The event was organized by Beijing Sports Competitions Administration Centre in cooperation with АРРТ team and the Poker Stars room. And for APPT it was the first stage on the mainland China. The prizes were given to 188 participants. And the winner of the event received ¥675,000 (which is $109,382). Knowing that is was only the first suchlike event and it has set a record right away we can only guess where the world Poker capital will be in, say, 5 years.
